Danke - by artist Sarah Forrest - Bruin Mischief

Danke is my tribute to the German heritage the teddy bears and I have in common. He is a 17” classic Steiff-like bear with brown matted mohair, a center seam head, long arms with spoon shaped felt paws, antique shoe button eyes, and excelsior stuffing. My German ancestry has had such an influence on my work. Besides growing up with wonderful German toys including many Steiff bears and animals, my mother’s education in Germany as a seamstress is the foundation for my work. As a child, I would sit by my mother while she sewed and play with my bears. Today I sew my bears on that very machine that my mom used when I was a child.
